Cogmans Kloof is one of the major entrances to Montagu. The route was made passable through shear rockface when Thomas Bain built the Cogmans Kloof pass and blasted a hole through the rockface which is evident today as you enter the town.

The town is often considered to be the most scenic on the famed Route 62 in addition to being the Route 62 gateway to the Little Karoo. Montagu's legendary rock formations brings climbers from far and wide to test their mountain climbing skills on these awesome peaks.
